Spring Fling, Upcoming Assessments

Happy Day Before Spring!

Deal was buzzing with activity yesterday.

Community Project Fair - Nearly 40 or our 8th graders participated in this year's Community Project Fair on Saturday. Students were able to collect canned goods, diapers, baby clothes, clothing, toiletries, books, dog/cat treats, athletic equipment, school supplies, feminine hygiene products, kitchen supplies, gift cards, and more. Thank you to our IB Coordinator, Ms. Daniels, for her leadership.

Some students will continue collecting donations this week. Families are encouraged to drop off travel size toiletries in the welcome center for donations to for persons who are experiencing homelessness.

Open House - Thank you to the thirty 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who provided student-led tours for the 300 visitors for our March Open House. It was great to see so many prospective families. Our next Open House is scheduled for April 29 from 10:00 until 12;00 noon.

Familias de Deal - We appreciate the opportunity to meet with the families of our emerging bilingual students. As a school community we are committed to ensuring all students and families feel welcomed and have the supports needed to be successful. Thank you to Deal parent, Deputy Chief Rosanna DeMammos (DCPS Language Acquistion Division) and Sharona Robinson from the DCPS Engagement and Partnerships Office for joining the meeting.

Over-the-phone interpretation services are available to families. Telephonic interpretation is available in over 240 languages, through Language Line. Our next Familias de Deal will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 29.

Hamlet - Congratulations to director, Andrea Harris Smith, and the theatre team for providing such a rich experience for our students. This year's Shakespeare production, a modern take on Hamlet, was truly wonderful. We are so impressed by our students' Tony Awards worthy talents. Bravo!

Thank you, thank you thank you to the ADCA and our family volunteers for your support for yesterday's events. We appreciate your commitment to our school.
