Mathletics Summer Camp for Middle School Students

The University of Maryland (UMD) is pleased to announce its summer mathematics enrichment program for middle school students—Mathletics. The Mathletics program uses sports data to teach mathematics and data analysis concepts. This is our 8th year offering the program that has grown in popularity among students.

Daily activities: Middle school boys and girls practice mathematical concepts in the morning, collect data on themselves through sports activities in the afternoon, and then analyze that data the next morning; keeping students academically engaged and physically stimulated.

Mathletics Highlights and Outcomes:

  • For the last five years, nearly 90% of all students improved their mathematical knowledge

  • by the conclusion of the program

  • Data analysis curriculum is taught by certified Maryland mathematics teachers

  • Students are able to collaborate within teams to reinforce what they are learning,

  • form friendships, and are mentored by UMD undergraduate students
