MLK Day Volunteer Opportunities from Deal Gives Back
Thanks to the work of the late Congressman John Lewis, Martin Luther King Jr. Day became a national day of service in 1994. ADCA's Deal Gives Back program encourages all Deal students to honor Dr. King's legacy by making Monday not a day off, but a "day on" providing service in our community.
Here are some local service opportunities:
Clean Up Rock Creek Park - Sign up here to clean up Rock Creek Park. Meet at 10am on MLK Day at the Normanstone Trailhead.
Help an Afghan Refugee Family - Sign up here to provide clothing or here to provide household goods for a newly-arrived Afghan refugee family of 11.
Shovel Snow for a Senior - Contact ANC 3/4G Commissioner Michael Zeldin to be matched with a senior resident who needs assistance with snow removal after winter storms.
Cook Soup for Families in Need - Help Goods for the Good's Soup for the Soul initiative by signing up to cook meals from the comfort of your own home to be dropped off between January 24-31.
Make Bag Lunches for the Unhoused - Sign up to provide 40 bagged lunches for residents of Friendship Place's La Casa Permanent Supportive Housing Program, another Goods for the Good initiative.
Support Isolated Seniors - Assemble a care package for a low-income senior—a joint project of Goods for Good and Lafayette Gives Back. Find instructions and sign-up here.
