Memorial Day
Principal's Message
I hope you are enjoying this cool May weekend. Mental Health Awareness Month may be coming to an end, but our efforts to maintain a healthy and balanced life should not stop. Let's continue to eat well, express gratitude, practice mindfulness, and find joy in the small things.
Simplify, slow down, be kind. And don't forget to have art in your life - music, paintings, theater, dance, and sunsets.
Eric Carle, Author of The Very Hungry Catepillar
Memorial Day
As a reminder, there is no school for students tomorrow, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. The holiday, which was originally known as Decoration Day, is day for us to reflect on the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the US military who have bravely given their lives to protect our freedom.

Pride and Prejudice | June 4 at 7:00 pm
Sit back and follow the adventures of the Bennet sisters of Hertfordshire, England. Pride and Prejudice is like a fairytale, only with a dose of scandal and amusing interludes in the form of comic characters. It has great characters, an intriguing plot, is full of surprises, and the longed-for happy ending. This love story transcends the class boundaries and challenges the traditional role of women, encouraging partnerships of mutual affection and respect – an ideal that has endured through to the current day.
We have an incredible cast featuring 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from across the community. Come on out and cheer on your friends, family, and schoolmates.
This is a virtual performance that has been previously recorded. Premiering Friday, June 4 at 7:00 pm, and available as Video on Demand through June 13. Get a free ticket for a viewing link here.

Signs will also be available for pick-up at the promotion ceremonies.
Deal School Addition Project
We are very excited about the upcoming Deal addition. This past week, we received the following update from DCPS Chief Operating Officer, Patrick Davis.
With the release of Mayor Bowser’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) budget for Fiscal Year 2022 to Fiscal Year 2027, DC Public Schools (DCPS) is reaching out to ensure you and your community understand the implications for your school’s addition.
The timeline and funding for the Deal School addition project has not changed. The project will begin planning and design in Fiscal Year 2023, with construction continuing in Fiscal Year 2024. The anticipated project completion is slated for School Year 2024- 2025. Please note, the DC Council will review and potentially make revisions in the coming months.
Throughout the modernization, DCPS will continue to share information with the community and offer opportunities to provide feedback. We appreciate your continued engagement in this process. We look forward to partnering with you in the coming years to support DC students with a world-class education in modernized facilities.
