Youth Risk Behavior Survey

During the fall of the 2023-24 school year, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), in partnership with public and public charter schools across the District of Columbia, administers the anonymous Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).

The YRBS covers six topic areas including:

  • Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence

  • Tobacco use

  • Alcohol and other drug use

  • Sexual risk behaviors

  • Unhealthy dietary behaviors

  • Physical inactivity

Deal students will take the survey during advisory on November 30.  The survey is voluntary.  Students will bring home an opt out form on Tuesday.  If you do NOT wish for your child to take the YRBS, please fill out the form and return it to your child's first period teacher on Wednesday, November 29 or Thursday, November 30.  If you have any questions, please contact OSSE's school Health team at OSSE.SchoolHealth@dc.gov.
