Óyeme Residency

This fall, Deal MS had the opportunity to partner with the Imagination Stage's community outreach program, Theatre for Change, and host a theater residency based on the stageplay, "Oyeme the Beautiful." Deal students enrolled in 6th grade Spanish Humanities and/or beginner courses for English Learners grades 6-8 were able to learn about acting from a talented, passionate, and energetic teaching artist and performer, Sara Hernandez. During the 8 in-class workshops, students were able to engage in collaborative play, write and perform stories in their target language, learn improvisation skills, add on new strategies for connecting to their bodies and their emotions, build their confidence through SEL exercises, and have a ton of fun in the classroom. A big thank you to the Imagination Stage's Ms. Sara, Ms. Triza Cox, and Ms. Hilda Lee Tijerina for making this possible for our kids!
