It is almost Spelling Bee season and when Deal students come out to spell, they excel!


Deal students persistently [per-sis-tuhnt-ly] advance to the citywide spelling bee competition. In 2018 a Deal 7th grader advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, while a 6th grader earned second place at the [pi-nuhl-tuh-mit] competition in DC. These achievements [uh-cheev-muhnt-s] represent the consummation [kon-suh-mey-shuhn] of months of hard work and dedication, led by Deal preceptor [pri-sep-ter], Tim Stroud, who teaches 7th grade world history and geography. The ADCA allocates [al-uh-keyt-s] funds to enroll in the Scripps National Spelling Bee – this equips [ih-kwips] Deal with the official list of words to study; prizes to award Deal students at different levels of the competition within the school; and a subscription to the Encyclopedia Britannica, for the winner of the Deal-wide spelling bee. Our endowment [en-dou-muhnt] to the ADCA ensures that Deal students continue to have enriching educational experiences.
