Speech and Debate Competes in the Tournament of Champions

Beginning last Friday evening and concluding Sunday afternoon the speech and debate team participated in the Tournament of Champions sponsored by the University of Kentucky and held virtually.  Over the course of the weekend debaters competed against over 400 middle school debaters from 15 different states and Taiwan.

Finishing the tournament tied for 12th place was Rohan Tatlow who competed in Student Congress. The following students just missed qualifying for elimination rounds:

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

  • Emma Pfaffenroth

  • Nicholas Ray

  • Juliet Tomlinson

Policy Debate

  • Josie Caspar and Venya Gulati

Congratulations for positively representing Deal at this national level event for the first time since 2021! Next up Deal will be sending 29 students to the Middle School National Speech and Debate tournament held in Des Moines, Iowa June 18-22nd.
