JROTC Opportunity for Rising 8th Graders
For the second year, 8th grade students have the opportunity to participate in JROTC. This optional course will take place during the advisory period and provides an unique opportunity for students. Representatives and students from the Jackson Reed JROTC will be at Deal during the lunch period on Tuesday, August 3.
JROTC is a fun and interactive program that teaches the fundamentals of leadership, communication, teamwork, discipline, and more. Sponsored by Jackson-Reed High School, the 8th Grade LET 1 Program fosters an environment that is conducive for learning by allowing students to not only be taught the curriculum but engage with each other through activities that prompt students to exercise teamwork and determination, while taking individual onus of their learning for practical application in real-world situations. Students will also learn the basics of Drill and Ceremony, as well as other skills such as anger and stress management, money management, goal setting, and physical fitness. To learn more about the program, please check out this short video or email Sergeant Sanders (lakeshia.sanders@k12.dc.gov).
Space is limited and not all interested students will be able to participate. If your student is interested in JROTC, please email Sergeant Sanders at lakeshia.sanders@k12.dc.gov. Students who are selected to participate in JROTC will be notified after the start of the school year.
