February Safe Return, Spring Athletics, ACCESS Testing
Principal’s Message
Good Afternoon,
I hope you had a wonderful February break!
As you know, all students and staff are required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test before returning to school tomorrow. This is an extension of the DCPS #SafeReturn testing measures that took place after winter break.
Test kits were distributed to Deal students during 8th period on Friday, February 18. If your student did not receive a test kit, please visit a District COVID Center or a Rapid Test Pick Up Site to receive one.
TODAY, students must take the easy-to-use, at-home test and follow the instructions provided HERE. Families may choose to utilize their own testing option, but tests administered before February 27 will not be accepted. Each COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test kit includes two COVID-19 tests. Families are encouraged to administer the second test 36 hours later, per the test kit instructions, but only one negative test is required to return to school.
Upload test results TODAY: Provide proof of your child's test results to dcps.dc.gov/safereturn by 9:00 pm TONIGHT.
Enter your child's name, address, a contact email, a contact phone number, school, date of the test, and test results.

Students Who Do Not Upload Proof of a Negative Test
Please note that students will not be permitted to attend school until they provide proof of a negative test result following the February break. If a student arrives at school without completing a test, families will be provided with a test kit to administer. Unaccompanied students will be tested on-site by trained medical professionals but may face a lengthy wait outside before starting the school day. You must complete this FORM if you choose to opt your child out of rapid antigen tests, your child must quarantine for 10 days and cannot attend school during this time.
Students Who Test Positive
If your student tests positive, follow all isolation guidance from DC Health and your child’s healthcare provider. Individuals who test positive cannot report for in-person activities and should remain at home during their isolation period. This includes students who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Reporting to School on Monday, February 28
Students who test negative are expected to come to school on Monday, February 28 with proof of their negative test results (paper copy or on their phone).
Students with proof of a negative test result will go directly to the appropriate entrance when they arrive at school on Wednesday morning. Deal staff will review their proof of a negative test result. Beginning at 8:30 am, students will receive a blue wristband, proceed through the regular security process, and report to class.
Students who test negative on Sunday, February 27 but do not bring proof of a negative result will have their results verified by a Deal staff member. Once verified, students will receive a blue wristband, proceed through the regular security process, and report to class.
Students who do not test at home will be able to test in a designated area. Entry for these students may be delayed beyond 9:00 am.
